May 9th- Itero to Villalcazar

Another beautiful start to the day, The weather has been great, I have not seen rain for 10 days or more and today will be no different, The mesteta keeps throwing up surprises and soon we find ourselves walking along a lovely canal, In the UK there would be fishermen every 50 feet, Here there is not one, We cross a lock and walk through Fromista and stop for breakfast, A long walk next to the road follows, We cross a bridge and end up with more road walking, I check the guide and find that we missed a turn that allows a walk along the river, You have to remain vigilant, i find a small road and get down to the river and the walk is transformed again into quiet countryside with cooling trees and a lovely little river, 2 donkeys find us amuzing and follow us, We try to scare them off but they keep coming back,Probably 2 miles before we see another pilgrim sitting down in the shade and we loos our 2 friends and carry on, Not long after we enter Villalcazar and find some very nice accommodation and settle in for the night, Another 30km and this distance seems about right for us, Start walking shortly after 6am and stop by 2pm. The route we are on now is famous for the Knights Templar and where we are staying has a church that was much visited by the knights, I stop in the church which is over 700 years old and still in working order, Amazing to be walking in the footsteps of such great history
