May 6th-Villfranca to Burgos

Up and out early once again, I knew it was going to be a long day but was not sure just how long, I knew there would be a few climbs, Infact the first climb was straight away, Turn right out of the Aubergue and instantly climb and climb and climb, 45 minutes later and i am at the top and then the topography changes like somewhere i have not seen here, Gorse changes to heather and pine trees, Looks just like Scotland, I was sure i was going to see a Capercallie, I did see 3 deer in the distance and enjoyed the bird song all the way as i do everyday, As the land dips and rises the plan tlife changes, I come across a monument where a mass grave was found in 1936, I cannot read what happened but i think the people making the Camino were killed and a few years later their bodies found-what a sad world we live in, people attach their lost loved ones pictures and signs, The wind farms are everywhere and this route is no different, We walk for a few hours before descending back into more familiar landscapes and time for breakfast of coffee and cake, I walk through the village of Ages and between this and the next village there is a site where the earliest signs of European settlers, There was murmurs that depending on how things went that we would make it onto Burgo, 40 km or 25 miles away, There is a long way between the last village and Burgos with a big hill in the middle so you have to make the decision if you stop or go for it, I decided to go for it, I walked with Ulrik from Denmark and we plodded on, It was a long hard walk, Once you get past  the airport it turns into industrial area and then 2 hours of walking on pavement through the city (shitty part) before you get to the old city which is stunning, Burgos is one of those cities that i would visit again and spend a few days, Burgos has a city WIFI network but to get on it but to get on it you have to go to the tourist info office and tell them you life story, Make sure you take you passport, They then give you a user name and password, Well it took forever to get on and then even though i had a full signal was reaaaaaaaallly slow, No way to upload images and even just text took forever, Either way the old city had a good vibe, I had a lovely Pizza and ice cream and enjoyed the buzz of the place, Whilst i was doing this Ulrik was being pick pocketed and lost 280 euros as well as credit and medical cards, Just like in the movie The Way gypsies ask for money there and things go missing, Next morning was spent getting back to the police station and making a report,After that a visit to the Cathedral which is a must see (half price to pilgrims) The Cathedral is beyond words, Huge, elaborate, stunning, extraordinary, over the top, museum, sick, Sick? yes, The building and contents are worth Billions, Beautifully restored but when you look back, The church has or had a huge amount of money and that came from the poor, the building is like 50 churches in one and i can see why the Australian nun would not visit any of them, Me, i appreciate the architecture and craftsmanship which is totally amazing but i can see the pomp and ridiculousness of the building, Its a stunner no doubt but alot of people have suffered for the price, Burgos is a lovely city and one i would love to have more time in.

Looks like Scotland but is the Camino for a few miles
